Five Happy Things

Dopamine Hits

In September 2023, I deleted all news apps from my phone. I cannot overemphasize how glorious it is from a mental health perspective to block all news notifications, especially around election time in the U.S.

Instead, I seek out news when I want it, but mostly little happy hits of dopamine to mitigate the garbage fire of our end times.

In case you need a pick-me-up too, here are five things I enjoyed this week:

  1. Dr. Teal’s Sugar Cookie Bath Salts: With the weather in Chicago finally dipping into the 50s, I have resumed my bath obsession and hastily hoarded every flavor of bath salt I could find. Imagine my delight when I saw LIMITED EDITION SEASONAL Dr. Teal’s bath salts at Target! The Sugar Cookie scent is lovely (vanilla, lemon & orange). Highly recommend for an after-dinner dessert-like soak!

  2. TOOT (Talking Out of Turn) Notebooks: Their designs are so cute. I am using this Meltdown Notebook as my journal right now and it is full of rainbow delights and surprises.

  3. Adam Brody! Just finished watching Nobody Wants This on Netflix. While I was not super into the writing, I was SUPER into rewatching Adam Brody and Kristen Bell’s first kiss. Highly recommend!

  4. The Life Impossible by Matt Haig: Magic, Ibiza, communication with animals, interconnectedness and a journey from grief to hope and empowerment. Yes please. (I am working on a more detailed book review - stay tuned!)

  5. Jon Batiste’s Fur Elise: If this doesn’t give you chills, you may not be human. Did anyone else play this in piano recitals as a child? Obsessed and can’t wait for the full Beethoven Blues album to come out.

I would love to hear what happy things you have experienced this week - please share in the comments!

xoxo
